Welcome to the Public Affairs Department at the Henry W. Bloch School of Management!

As you prepare for the next stage of your professional career, we encourage you to explore the degree options and faculty that are part of our department.

MPA students are seeking more than just a career. Our students graduate with the ability to make a  difference in the lives of people and communities. Many of our graduates achieve positions of leadership in public service agencies and organizations (for more information on the careers that MPA graduates pursue, click here).

Public service leadership – whether in government, health care, or the nonprofit sector -- is one of the highest callings that any student can pursue, and we’re pleased that you are taking the time to explore a career of service and significance. Whether you’re the mid-career adult looking for a career change or a new graduate who’s ready for the next stage in professional development, UMKC’s Department of Public Affairs has the program and faculty to help you. See our Mission Statement.

In addition, The Advisory Council to the Department of Public Affairs is comprised of experienced government and nonprofit public service and community leaders who will provide guidance and support to the department as it designs and delivers programs and services to the Greater Kansas City public service community.

Public Affairs degree programs include:

MPA ’07:
City of KCMO, Urban Planning Department

I had the opportunity to bridge my academic studies with practical real world experiences, ensuring I would be prepared to enter the work force upon graduation.

As the Bloch school is engaged in the community the faculty encourage its students to become civically involved as well. The faculty truly care about the success of their students, and go out of their way to ensure that  students are fully prepared to apply their knowledge in practice.
