Bonnie S. Johnson, Director of Risk Management for Saint Luke’s Hospital, grew up in Kansas City, Missouri. She earned a BS in Nursing at the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1985 and her Juris Doctor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1992.
Ms. Johnson began her nursing career as an intensive care nurse at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. During her four years, her responsibilities included managing critically ill patients in addition to supervising other nurses and their patient assignments. She also was certified as a Critical Care Registered Nurse and worked with post-open heart patients and patients with cardiovascular diseases as a clinician on the Cardiac Rehabilitation Team.
Ms. Johnson began her legal career at General Electric in 1992 as a Health Law Attorney. In this role she was responsible for evaluating professional liability exposures and claim administration capabilities of healthcare providers nationwide.
Ms. Johnson joined Saint Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri in 2001. She is currently responsible for the protection of the organization’s financial assets through processes designed to reduce the probability of adverse events and to reduce the severity and impact of losses once they occur. This includes managing the Professional and General liability claims and litigation for Saint Luke’s Hospital, Saint Luke’s Cancer Institute, Saint Luke’s East-Lee’s Summit and Saint Luke’s Northland via a self-insured trust.
