The Physician's Leadership Program (PLP) is a partnership between the Henry W. Bloch School of Management and the School of Medicine at UMKC. PLP is a certificate program designed to provide comprehensive healthcare management skills that prepare physicians to successfully fulfill the challenging leadership requirements of 21st century healthcare delivery. Through a powerful combination of academic research driving an advanced curriculum and world-class faculty that only a great university can provide, we ensure that you will gain skills and frameworks for innovation and strategic thinking as well as financial and business acumen.

The curriculum is organized around the following interrelated areas of study:
 

  • Leadership
  • Organizational and Business Ethics
  • Financial Management and Analysis
  • Legal/Regulatory Issues in Health Care Management
  • Dealing with Disruptive Physicians
  • Building and Guiding Teams
  • Organizational Dynamics

Who should enroll in the program?

This program was designed for physicians who are currently in leadership positions or those who will be promoted to a leadership position in the next 12-18 months. The program is designed to provide rigorous leadership and management training to those physicians who are transitioning from a primary role as a clinician to an organizational leader.
